VFW CHIEF OUTRAGED OVER HANDLING OF OVERSEAS MILITARY ABSENTEE BALLOTS
KOSOVO, November 20, 2000 "To mishandle these ballots is a slap in the
face to every individual who has ever worn the uniform of our nation and a
travesty that the Veterans of Foreign Wars will not tolerate."
Those were a portion of the remarks from John F.Gwizdak, Commander-in-Chief
of the 1.9-million member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW) issued
while visiting with American troops stationed here.
"These overseas military absentee ballots deserve to be counted unless they
are so damaged as to be unreadable," said the VFW Chief. "These American
heroes are preserving our right to vote and their votes should not be
manipulated in an attempt to provide any candidate with an advantage. To do
otherwise is an insult to every American veteran past and present. Many of
these ballots represent those who are placing themselves in harm's way for
America's freedoms including the right to vote. The VFW will not allow their
vote to be cast aside."
