The Gazette--October 11, 2001
The County Council voted today in closed session
to appeal a federal judge's ruling last week that
the county's new gun show bill is illegal. Federal
Judge Marvin Garbis ruled against the bill, saying
the county has no right to tell the City of
Gaithersburg not to allow the sale of guns within
its borders simply because the fairgrounds
receives county tax money.
Gun shows have taken place at the Montgomery
County Agricultural Center and Fairgrounds in the
City of Gaithersburg for 10 years. The county bill
denies tax money to any organization, public or
private, that allows the display and sale of guns
at a multipurpose exhibition facility it owns or
controls.
