The American Militia

At First There Were Few

Over many years I have had the privilege to work on various pro-firearm freedom projects. I work gun shows and campaigns, public fairs and club open houses and educational events. I have the opportunity to see and watch what the gun owner community is doing and how it is reacting to changing times. Recently we have been promised change and I have Seen It Arrive.

Nearly a year ago, in early 2008, folks started asking what I would call “newbe” questions at shows and public venues. They weren’t even motivated by recent emergencies like huricanes or Beltway Snipers, they just started asking questions. You could tell they were new to the firearm issue, or at least new to being active. Then they started doing things, buying things, and by late in the summer of 2008 it was obvious, a slow but steady ground swell was begun. I am fortunate to be in the position of instructing folks, both seasoned shooters and new folks, and a lot of new and pointed questions were being asked by them all. They could best be summarized by, “Tell me about self defense”.

Then there was an election and the promised change came home in force. Four days after the election I saw about a doubling of the number of folks who normally attend a gun show and asking for information I had available. I ran out of printed material. I fielded two to three times the number of gun club membership questions.

Then the questions of the show patrons became actions, ammo and guns were selling at a record pace. The economy may be down, but the firearm business is booming, a real .50BMG BOOM. Depending on the source of information the business is up anywhere from 5 to 20% in succeeding months, perhaps it will be up 50% or so for the November 2008 to November 2009 year. I got your stimulus right here for you, and it didn’t cost the tax payers a dime! Then folks needed places to learn to shoot.

At my club the usual new member count in early 2008 was about 5 per month. Last November, after the election, it was 15, three times normal. December is a social meeting month with no new members, but January was 19 new and in February there were 20 new. By the way, each new club member must be an NRA member, so the NRA is gaining some new members.

Each new member is another person to spread the word, each will become politically active in his own way and may influence others. I will see to it they have all the motivation and information they can stand.

Will I see you at the shows and at the clubs, something you have been neglecting for far too long? Will you join The American Militia? We always need general support, but now we need active support the most. Unfortunately, it takes bad times for us to overlook our “gun owner” solitary ways and join others the common fight. Do not miss this muster or your freedom may die just beyond your grasp.

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." -- Samuel Adams --

The American Militia wants you! Do you want it?
